About FoodCon 2
In 2010, the Harrison Center hosted FoodCon, an unconventional convention and first-of-its-kind showcase and exploration of the art and culture of food in Indianapolis. The event attracted over 2000 attendees. Propelled by the interest and enthusiasm surrounding the 2010 event, the Harrison Center, in partnership with Butler University and others, announces FoodCon II to take place at the Harrison Center on Friday, September 2 from 5pm to 9pm.
This year's FoodCon is built around the concept of food "biomes." Attendees will move through the building and courtyard to experience each of 5 biomes, (the Desert, Prairie, Wetlands, Forest and Tundra) as they are interpreted by artists and others involved in the local food movement.
Gallery No. 2 will show photographs by Ryan Collier. The Harrison Gallery will feature work about the Tundra by relational artist and assistant professor of art at Butler University, Leah Gauthier. In the Gallery Annex, the Desert biome will be interpreted by printmaker Holly Childress. Slow Food Indy will represent the Wetlands biome in the gym, while installation artist, Michelle Walkey Thornburg creates a macular gastronomy "lab" in Hank & Dolly's Gallery. Over two dozen vendors, representatives of the best of Indianapolis' local food farmer's markets, dairies, neighborhood supper clubs and more, will create a "food forest" in the courtyard. Food truck favorites, Duo's and others, as well as Sun King Brewery, will be on site as well. |
